How it works

Compression happens in this browser

FileIvy decodes and re-encodes your image locally. Re-encoding usually removes EXIF, GPS, comments, and thumbnails. If your original is already smaller than a safe re-encode, FileIvy keeps it and tells you that existing metadata may remain.

Smart, quality, or an exact ceiling

Smart mode finds a balanced reduction. Quality mode gives you direct control. Target size searches for the best safe result that does not exceed your limit; when that target is not feasible, FileIvy explains why instead of pretending it succeeded.

Supported formats

JPG, PNG, and still WebP

PNG keeps transparency and stays PNG unless you explicitly allow WebP conversion. Animated images, HEIC, AVIF, SVG, and GIF are not changed in this release. Browser encoders can normalize color profiles, DPI, HDR, and wide-gamut data, so professional-print workflows should keep their original files.

Your image stays on your device

FileIvy does not send file bytes, names, previews, dimensions, metadata, or compression settings to a server. Files live only in memory until you replace them, reset the tool, close the tab, or choose to download the result.

Common questions

What happens to image quality?

JPEG and WebP use bounded quality settings. FileIvy will not go below 35% quality, below half the original width or height, or below 160 pixels on either side just to chase a target. PNG export is lossless in the browser, so meaningful size reductions may require an explicit WebP conversion.
