CompatibilityCertificate-encrypted PDFs are not supported. Very old PDF readers may not support AES-256 files.

This tool is for documents you own or have explicit permission to unlock. It does not bypass an unknown password.

Wrong passwords stop cleanly

An output is created only after the current user or owner password successfully opens the encrypted PDF.

Compatibility

Standard password security

Common RC4, AES-128, and AES-256 password-protected PDFs can be read. Certificate- or PKI-encrypted files are not supported.

Signatures

Unlocking invalidates signatures

Removing encryption rewrites the document. Existing digital signatures will no longer verify after the unlocked copy is created.
